LAGOS LAWMAKER COMMENDS SANWO-OLU OVER ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency I, Bonu Solomon Saanu, has praised Babajide Sanwo-Olu for promoting balanced development across Lagos State following the commissioning of the Badagry West Electrification Project.

The governor, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, was also urged by the lawmaker to give attention to another major infrastructure project in the area—the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at the Kweme Descendants Union in Badagry West on Wednesday, Saanu expressed appreciation to the state government for delivering the long-awaited electrification project.

He noted that the project involved the electrification of three HC Tower crossings, the rehabilitation of 33KV distribution lines along the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors, as well as the connection of 51 transformer substations.

According to him, the development was long overdue and has restored a vital social amenity that residents of the affected communities had been deprived of for years.

Saanu said the improved electricity supply would enhance living conditions and boost economic activities across the area. He also encouraged residents to take ownership of the project and ensure that the infrastructure is properly protected.

Quoting from the Bible, the lawmaker described the development as a new beginning for the community.

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. Badagry West, arise and shine, for your light has come,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for visiting his family house during the trip, describing the gesture as encouraging and meaningful.

“On behalf of the good people of Badagry, especially Badagry West, we thank Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for bringing this electrification project to our community,” he said.

Saanu further assured residents that he would continue to push for the completion of other critical infrastructure projects in the constituency, particularly the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road.

“Next in line for us in Badagry is the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road. I promise to use my legislative influence to push this through with God’s grace,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, Hamzat highlighted the significance of the electrification project, describing it as part of the state government’s deliberate efforts to address long-standing electricity challenges in the Badagry axis.

He explained that the intervention aligns with the state government’s THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly in expanding energy access and building resilient infrastructure that supports economic growth.

Hamzat also noted that with the recent inauguration of the board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the state is better positioned to regulate and expand electricity supply effectively.

According to him, the project will strengthen power distribution along the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridor, enabling thousands of homes, shops, and businesses to enjoy more stable electricity.

He added that the state government is working with the Federal Government of Nigeria to speed up work on the Gbaji–Apa–Owode Road, which is considered vital for improving trade and connectivity in the border communities.

The commissioning ceremony attracted a large turnout of dignitaries and community members, many of whom expressed appreciation for the project and its expected impact on the development of Badagry West.
