Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, is set to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) on Tuesday, with his decoration expected on the same day, sources have confirmed.

Reports indicate that Jimoh is lobbying to remain in Lagos to take charge of the Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos Island. He assumed office in February 2025 as the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Zone 2 Police Command is responsible for policing operations, law enforcement, and crime prevention across Lagos and Ogun states. Sources also suggest that Tijani Fatai, currently Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, may replace Jimoh as Lagos State Commissioner of Police. Fatai reportedly enjoys the support of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced that a promotion examination and interactive session for senior officers seeking elevation to AIG will take place on March 10, 2026, at the Police Service Commission (PSC) headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. Officers invited for the session are required to report early for briefing and transportation to the venue.
The exercise will include an evaluation of professional competence in law, local acts, and professional studies. Officers are also expected to wear formal attire, including black jackets, berets, and carry swagger canes. Twelve armed officers from the Mobile Force (MOPOL) will provide escort, while vehicles from the transport department will facilitate movement to and from the PSC headquarters.

This development follows recent promotions by the PSC, where seven AIGs were elevated to Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) to fill vacancies created by the retirement of senior officers. The promotions, based on merit, seniority, and performance in written and oral exams, are part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the police force under Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu.
