The Lagos State Government has sealed the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to persistent environmental infractions.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the enforcement action in a post on X on Sunday.

“Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos,” Wahab wrote.

The shutdown is part of the state’s intensified enforcement drive to ensure compliance with environmental laws, curb improper waste disposal, and eliminate illegal street trading.
Ladipo Market one of the largest auto spare parts hubs in Nigeria has faced previous sanctions over similar issues. In 2023, the state temporarily sealed the market but later reopened it after operators met stipulated sanitation and waste management requirements.

The Public Affairs Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kadiri Folashade, had at the time emphasized that markets must strictly adhere to waste management best practices in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda, which prioritizes environmental cleanliness, public health, and safety.

Sunday’s sealing indicates renewed enforcement amid ongoing concerns about compliance at the market, including indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians and highways and unauthorized street vending.
The action reflects the state’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions and illegal trading, with authorities vowing continued monitoring and stricter penalties for repeat offenders.
