Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has debunked reports suggesting he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), calling them false and baseless.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Media Adviser, Ezrel Tabiowo, Lawan, who represents Yobe North Senatorial District, reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC, a party he has been with since its formation. He dismissed the circulation of posters and reports linking him to the SDP as misleading.
“These claims are entirely false and without merit. Senator Ahmad Lawan remains a dedicated member of the APC and a key stakeholder committed to the party’s success,” the statement read.
Highlighting his political consistency, Lawan emphasized that he has never switched parties in his 25-year political career. He recalled being elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 under the All People’s Party (APP), which later became the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) before merging to form the APC in 2013.
Lawan also reiterated his strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, commending their leadership and vision for national transformation.
He assured APC members and Nigerians of his continued dedication to the party’s progress, stating, “I remain committed to strengthening the APC and advancing its agenda for the betterment of our nation.”
