1. Fintech firm unveils software to reduce loan defaults
Nigerian fintech company, Fintrak, has unveiled its innovative credit ratings software, designed to help banks assess customer creditworthiness and reduce loan defaults.
The software, which leverages advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence, aims to enhance credit risk management and streamline the lending process across Nigeria’s banking sector.
Announcing the innovation in a press statement signed by the firm on Saturday, the Group Managing Director of Fintrak, Bimbo Abioye, described the software as a game-changer for financial institutions.
He said the software empowers banks to make informed lending decisions, thereby reducing the risk of defaults and contributing to the long-term stability of the financial system.

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has inaugurated the Irrigate Nigeria Project in Bauchi State, targeting 3.14 million hectares of farmland to boost food production through modern irrigation technology.
Speaking at the inauguration in Udubo, the Gamawa Local Government Area on Saturday, the Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, Dahiru Muhammad, lamented Nigeria’s continued dependence on rain-fed agriculture, despite the sector employing over 70% of the country’s workforce.
“The Irrigate Nigeria Project is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity through modern irrigation technologies,” Muhammad said.

4. FIFA president Infantino defends Saudi World Cup, Trump relationship
FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Friday stood by his governing body’s decision to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia, while also defending his relationship with Donald Trump.
The Gulf kingdom was controversially handed the right to host the World Cup at a FIFA Congress in December despite concerns about its human rights record, the risks to migrant labourers and criminalisation of same-sex relationships.

Popular socialite Sophia Egbueje has confirmed the purchase of a Lamborghini following allegations that music star Burna Boy failed to fulfill a promise to buy her the luxury car.
The development comes after a leaked audio recording surfaced, in which Egbueje accused Burna Boy of engaging in a one-night stand with her and failing to deliver on his alleged commitment to gift her the vehicle.
In response to the controversy, Burna Boy shared a freestyle video on his Instagram Story, seemingly addressing the situation without directly mentioning Egbueje. In the video, he criticised an unnamed individual for making an issue out of his failure to buy the car.

Akwa Ibom women on Saturday took to some major Streets of Uyo, the state capital, protesting the sexual harassment allegation levelled against their son and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
They described the allegations as “Unfounded”, and a ploy to discredit and tarnish Akpabio’s image, warning Natasha to stop disrespecting and embarrassing their son and the number three citizen of the country.
The disgruntled women who made a stop at the popular Plaza roundabout during the protest, demanded an apology from Natasha or risk their wrath.
Some of them carried placards with inscriptions such as, “‘Number 3 man deserves respect, ‘Natasha, don’t embarrass us with your behaviour’, ‘Respect for husbands is our tradition Natasha”
