Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has directed the chairmen of the 11 local government areas in Ibadanland to jointly provide a befitting fleet of vehicles for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.
The governor gave the directive during the grand finale of the 2025 Ibadan Cultural Festival, held at Obafemi Awolowo Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan. The announcement comes 11 months after Oba Olakulehin’s coronation as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024.
Makinde emphasized that traditional rulers in Oyo State would not be denied their entitlements under his administration, noting that the Council of Obas and Chiefs had been inactive prior to his assumption of office in 2019.
“They’ve asked why the Olubadan hasn’t received a befitting vehicle. I’ve sent a directive to the 11 LG chairmen in Ibadanland — they must provide a fleet of vehicles for the Olubadan before the end of this month,” the governor stated.
He added that once the Council of Obas and Chiefs is reconstituted, all traditional rulers in the state would receive what is due to them.
Makinde also took time to appreciate the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) for honoring Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, during the ceremony. He praised Diri for his commitment to service and strong support for the people.
Responding after receiving the Outstanding Friend of Ibadanland award, Governor Douye Diri commended Makinde for his visionary leadership and developmental strides in Oyo State.
“Government is about the people, and it is clear Governor Makinde is making his people happy,” Diri said. “When good people govern, the people rejoice.”
He called on residents of Oyo State to continue supporting Governor Makinde’s administration.
Also in attendance at the event were Oba Owolabi Olakulehin (represented by Oba Rasidi Ladoja), Architect Bamidele Samson (event chairman), Chief Abiola Alli (planning committee chairman), and Chief Sulaimon Ajewole, President-General of the CCII.
