The Lagos State House of Assembly has reiterated its order suspending all construction on demolished sites in Makoko and Shogunle communities, pending the completion of reconciliation efforts expected within two weeks.

The Assembly approved a recommendation from Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on E-GIS, to establish a 250-metre setback from the Third Mainland Bridge and an additional 250-metre buffer beyond the power line corridor, prohibiting any development within these zones.

During a committee meeting with community leaders, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Majority Leader Hon. Noheem Adams, explained that each affected community is to form a 10-member committee in collaboration with the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the E-GIS Office. Adams emphasized that the committees should include women, youths, students, and traditional leaders to ensure a comprehensive approach to resolving the issues.

He also noted that the State Executive Council is finalizing compensation packages for affected residents while dialogue continues.

Following the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Government expressed satisfaction with the resolutions and highlighted that relief materials and palliatives had already been distributed by both state and local authorities. He encouraged residents to adhere strictly to the directives and warned community leaders against pursuing personal interests that could jeopardize peace and the reconciliation process.
