MAMMOTH CROWD WELCOMES GOVERNOR LAWAL IN HISTORIC VISIT TO DANSADAU

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State received a warm and historic welcome from residents as he visited Dansadau in Maru Local Government Area on Wednesday. Thousands of residents from major communities leading to the town gathered to greet the governor.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the last visit by a Zamfara governor to Dansadau was over 20 years ago, during former Governor Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura’s tenure. Idris added that Dansadau, the largest ward in Maru LGA, had long been overlooked by previous administrations.

During the visit, Governor Lawal toured Wanke, Magami, and Dan Gulbi communities, inspecting the ongoing construction of the 108-kilometre Gusau–Dansadau Road, a project initiated by his administration.

In a special ceremony, the Emir of Dansadau, His Royal Highness Alhaji Garba Mohammed Sarkin Kudu, conferred the traditional title of Garkuwan Dansadau on the governor. The visit underscores Lawal’s commitment to delivering development to grassroots communities under the Zamfara Rescue Mission.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FEMALE NURSING STUDENTS ANNOUNCED

The Zamfara State Government has launched a scholarship programme targeting female students to study nursing. Announced by the Zamfara State Scholarship Board, the initiative covers tuition, registration, accommodation, and allowances at Nexus Nursing College, Katsina.

Eligible applicants must be female indigenes of Zamfara State, demonstrate financial need, and meet academic requirements: SSCE (max two sittings) and a minimum JAMB score of 140. Additionally, the state government has approved full scholarships for 20 students to pursue undergraduate studies at El-Amin University, Minna, in fields such as Law, Accounting, Business Management, Criminology & Security Studies, Economics, Mass Communication, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, and Software Engineering.

PRIMARY HEALTHCARE AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

Governor Lawal also directed a complete overhaul of the Dansadau Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), including the installation of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities, during an inspection visit. The initiative aims to improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Dansadau and surrounding communities.

The governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development through community engagement and continuous infrastructure projects.

EU-FUNDED PEACE PROJECT LAUNCHED IN ZAMFARA

Governor Lawal launched the €5.1 million EU-funded Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response, and Resilience (CPCRR) project on Monday at the Rescue Hall, Government House, Gusau. The initiative targets peacebuilding, stability, and resilience in conflict-affected areas, supporting over 95,000 beneficiaries including IDPs, returnees, host communities, women, and youth across ten LGAs in Katsina and Zamfara.

The project is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with Mercy Corps and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).

During the launch, Governor Lawal emphasized that the initiative complements the state government’s efforts to strengthen local peace, revitalize livelihoods, enhance coordination across ministries, and support community dialogue mechanisms.

European Union Ambassador, Mr. Gautier Mignot, commended Governor Lawal’s dedication to development and his support for partnerships aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in Zamfara State.
