Man, 30, arraigned for allegedly stealing from church

A 30-year-old unemployed man, Saheed Dosa, on Friday, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing items worth N160,000 from a church.

Dosa is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp.

Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on June 29, at 3.00 a.m., at No. 23, Shalom St., Powerflow Avenue, Idimu, Lagos.

Aigbokhan said that the defendant unlawfully entered into the premises of the complainant, Powerflow Gospel Church and stole one stabiliser, one battery and copper wire valued at N160,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287 (1) (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 (1) (a) provides seven years imprisonment for anybody found guilty of stealing after a previous conviction, while Section 411 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy to steal.

Dosunmu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

Dosunmu said that the surety must be a blood relative to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until Aug.

29 for mention.
