MAN UNITED BEAT VILLA 3–1 TO BOOST UCL PUSH

Manchester United strengthened their push for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a convincing 3–1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After a quiet first half, United took the lead early in the second half when Casemiro headed home from a corner to score his first league goal of the season.

Villa responded in the 64th minute as Ross Barkley fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Senne Lammens to bring the visitors level.

However, the home side finished strongly. Matheus Cunha restored United’s lead late in the game before Benjamin Sesko sealed the victory with a third goal, sending the Old Trafford crowd into celebration.

The result marks the seventh win in nine matches for interim manager Michael Carrick, who has steadied the club since the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

United now sit third in the Premier League table, three points ahead of fourth-placed Villa in the race for Champions League qualification.

The victory also came after an 11-day break following the first defeat of Carrick’s tenure, which came against Newcastle United.

Carrick celebrated enthusiastically on the touchline after Sesko wrapped up the win, continuing an impressive run that has strengthened his case to be considered for the permanent managerial role.

Earlier this week, United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe praised Carrick for the “excellent job” he has done since taking charge, though he stopped short of confirming whether the former midfielder will remain manager beyond the interim period.

For Villa and manager Unai Emery, the defeat deepens their recent struggles. The team has now lost three consecutive league matches and managed only one win in their last seven games.

Villa remain just three points above Chelsea F.C. with eight matches left in the battle for European qualification, leaving their hopes of securing a Champions League place increasingly uncertain.

United’s win also gave Carrick his sixth consecutive home victory as a Premier League manager — a feat previously achieved at the start of a managerial reign only by Sven-Göran Eriksson, Carlo Ancelotti, and Manuel Pellegrini.
