An angry mob in Gadan-Gayan, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has brutally murdered and set ablaze an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Aliyu Imran (ASN), following a tragic accident during a drug suspect chase.
Aliyu and his colleagues were in pursuit of a suspected drug dealer when the fleeing suspect reversed his vehicle, killing at least three people on the spot. As tensions escalated, Aliyu reportedly attempted to calm the situation but was instead attacked by enraged residents.
A source revealed that the officer was stabbed while his team leader, the Officer-in-Charge (OC), called for backup. However, Aliyu was left behind as his colleagues fled the scene. A police officer attempted to save him by taking him to a nearby hospital, but the mob later stormed the facility, dragged him out, and burned him alive.
“He just got married in December,” a grieving colleague lamented. “His wife fainted at his burial.”
Family members have accused the NDLEA of failing to acknowledge the incident or offer any form of support. A source within the agency alleged that similar cases had been covered up in the past, with families receiving little to no compensation.
The NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the incident, stating that the agency’s chairman is personally in touch with the deceased officer’s family.
