MRS AKINGBOYE ALLEGES UNLAWFUL RELEASE OF LATE HUSBAND’S BODY BY LAGOS POLICE.

The widow of the late businessman and politician, Bamidele Akingboye, has accused the Lagos State Police Command of improperly releasing her husband’s corpse and mishandling his personal belongings, despite what she says was a legal clearance of the family by state prosecutors.

Mrs Christiana Akingboye, in a public appeal addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the Senate and the Inspector-General of Police, described the alleged actions as a breach of due process and an abuse of authority.

She claims that after the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) reportedly issued legal advice exonerating her and her children of any wrongdoing, the police had no lawful basis to release the remains to her stepson and other persons without her consent or an order of court.

Mrs Akingboye further alleged that sensitive documents, including the DPP’s advice, were leaked online before the family was formally notified. She also claimed her late husband’s mobile phones were handed to an estranged stepson, while some medications remain unaccounted for.

According to her, lawyers representing the immediate family had formally warned both the police and the morgue against releasing the body or personal effects without proper authorisation.

She said a meeting held on January 23 at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, resulted only in the return of passports, with other concerns unresolved.

Mrs Akingboye said she fears for her safety and that of her children, urging the President, the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, and the IGP to order an independent investigation.

The Lagos State Police Command has not yet issued a public response to the allegations.
