Muhammed Babangida Accepts Bank of Agriculture Chairmanship, Commends President Tinubu for Confidence and Vision

Muhammed Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) and expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with such a critical national assignment.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Babangida described recent reports circulating on social media—claiming that he rejected the appointment—as “false, malicious, and politically motivated.” He firmly denounced the rumors, stating that they were designed to mislead the public and undermine the integrity of the Tinubu-led administration.

“We wish to clarify that Muhammed Babangida gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as officially announced by the Federal Government,” the statement read.
“He extends his sincere appreciation to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him through this appointment.”

Debunking Fake News, Reaffirming Commitment to National Service

The press release emphasized that the letter allegedly written by Babangida declining the appointment was “a complete fabrication” and had no connection whatsoever to the former first family.

“This is a deliberate attempt by certain elements to sow discord, generate controversy, and discredit both the appointee and the administration that appointed him,” it stated.

Babangida’s team further disclosed that relevant authorities are being notified to trace the origin of the fake letter and ensure that those behind it are brought to justice.

“We urge the media and the general public to be vigilant and responsible in verifying information before dissemination. Misinformation, especially of this magnitude, poses a serious threat to national stability and public trust.”

A Strategic Appointment for Agricultural Reform

Muhammed Babangida’s appointment as Chairman of the BOA is widely seen as a strategic move by President Tinubu to inject fresh, reform-minded leadership into a sector critical to the nation’s food security, job creation, and rural development.

The Bank of Agriculture plays a central role in supporting smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and rural entrepreneurs through loans, input financing, and development support. Stakeholders have long called for a revitalization of the BOA’s leadership to meet the current economic challenges and modern agricultural demands.

“Muhammed Babangida brings to the table a wealth of experience in business development, strategic management, and public policy,” said a senior BOA official.
“His commitment to national progress and track record of responsible leadership makes him well-suited for the job.”

A Call for Unity and Focus

The statement concluded with a strong call for national unity and responsible civic engagement, urging Nigerians to resist divisive narratives and support competent leadership, regardless of background or affiliation.

“Our focus now must shift from political speculation to pragmatic action,” the statement concluded.
“We remain committed to delivering tangible value to the Nigerian people through agricultural transformation and sustainable development.”

Muhammed Babangida’s appointment was part of a broader shake-up by President Tinubu aimed at rejuvenating leadership across key federal agencies and institutions. His acceptance reaffirms his readiness to contribute meaningfully to national development.
