*OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR MUSILIU OLATUNDE OBANIKORO*
Dear Distinguished Senator Obanikoro,
I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent developments in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, particularly with regards to the upcoming 2025 Local Government election in Lagos. As a bonafide resident of Festac, Amuwo-Odofin, and a loyal member of the APC, I feel compelled to bring to your attention the issues that have been plaguing our party in recent times.
While your initial decision to switch from Lagos Central to West and picking Amuwo-Odofin local as your local government was seen as a strategic move, your subsequent actions have raised eyebrows among party faithfuls. Your lack of loyalty to our party leader, Asiwaju, has been a subject of discussion among us, and your handling of party affairs has left much to be desired. The fact that we lost all elections under your leadership is a stark reminder of the need for a change in approach.
I am particularly disturbed by your involvement in the selection process of our chairmanship candidate for the APC in Amuwo-Odofin. It has come to our notice that you are pushing for Sultan Oyewole Jinadu, a candidate who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)along with you, over more qualified and loyal party members. This move is not only unfair but also smacks of desperation and a lack of regard for the feelings and aspirations of party members.
At a time when our party is trying to rebuild and reposition itself after the 2023 general election, it is imperative that we prioritize unity, fairness, and transparency. The selection of a chairmanship candidate should be based on merit, loyalty, and a proven track record of service to the party, not on personal interests or ambitions. I implore you to reconsider your stance and allow the party to choose a candidate who is widely accepted and supported by the majority of members.
Furthermore, I must remind you that the 2025 Local Government election is an opportunity for us to prove a point and make a positive change in our community. It is not a platform for personal aggrandizement or a means to settle scores. As a former local government chairman, minister and senator, you have a responsibility to act in the best interest of the party and the people, not to pursue personal interests or ambitions.
We are also saddened to hear that you are secretly calling on some aspirants who are more qualified and loyal than your stooge to deputize him. This is a clear indication that you are more interested in imposing your will on the party rather than allowing the democratic process to unfold. Additionally, we are aware that you are making promises of positions to some party faithful that you cannot guarantee, all in an effort to ensure Sultan Oyewole Jinadu emerges as the flag bearer of our party. This kind of maneuvering undermines the integrity of our party’s selection process and creates an unfair advantage for your preferred candidate.
It’s essential that we prioritize fairness, transparency, and merit in our selection process. We should be supporting the most qualified and loyal candidates, not trying to manipulate the system to favor a particular individual. By doing so, we risk alienating dedicated party members and damaging the trust that’s essential for our party’s success.
We urge you to reconsider your approach and work towards creating a level playing field for all aspirants. This will not only ensure that the best candidate emerges but also maintain the integrity and credibility of our party. If you are unable to be fair and just in the selection process, I suggest you step back and allow the party to handle the matter. We are working tirelessly to win the hearts of our community, and we need your support, not your interference.
I hope you will take my concerns seriously and act in the best interest of the party and the people. I look forward to seeing a more transparent and inclusive approach to party affairs in the future.
Yours sincerely,
*Cicero Adegboyega Ademide Sasore-Whyte*
