Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, to take urgent action following a deadly attack in Plateau State.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged the minister to move beyond promises and deliver tangible security results. She wrote that Nigerians are demanding protection, not condolences or excuses, and called on him to either secure lives or step aside.
The call follows a violent attack on Sunday night in Angwan Rukuba and nearby communities in Jos North Local Government Area. Witnesses reported that over 20 gunmen on motorcycles opened fire at a busy junction, an open-air bar, and surrounding residential areas, leaving many dead and injured.
The attack comes weeks after at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes were killed in Kanam Local Government Area during an ambush by heavily armed bandits. The ongoing violence has sparked protests, with some youths blocking major roads.
Caleb Mutfwang condemned the latest attack as “barbaric and unprovoked,” convened emergency security meetings, and visited affected residents. The state government also imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to prevent further escalation.
The incident underscores the persistent insecurity in Plateau and neighbouring states, where communities continue to face repeated attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.
