The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified after some stakeholders petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) against Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court for allegedly issuing a conflicting order on the party’s national convention.
The petitioners — Austine Nwachukwu, Amah Nnanna, and Turnah George — accused Justice Akintola of misconduct for granting an ex parte order allowing the PDP to hold its convention in Ibadan on November 15–16, despite an earlier Federal High Court, Abuja order stopping it.
Justice James Omotosho of the Abuja court had earlier restrained the PDP from holding the event, citing procedural violations in notifying INEC. But Akintola later vacated that order, authorising the convention to proceed — a move the petitioners described as “judicial recklessness” and a violation of due process.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Nwachukwu, the embattled Imo PDP chairman, urged the NJC to investigate and discipline the judge, warning that such actions undermine public trust in the judiciary.
The controversy has further widened the rift between factions loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and acting PDP Chairman Umar Damagum, deepening tensions within the opposition party.
