NATIONAL PATRIOTS COMMEND EDO GOVERNOR OKPEBHOLO ON PROMPT RELEASE OF STUDENTS.

The National Patriots Movement has welcomed the release of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) students who were remanded following protests in Ekpoma, describing the decision as a measured and humane response by the Edo State Government.

In a statement, the group said Governor Monday Okpebholo chose dialogue and review over prolonged detention after authorities assessed the circumstances surrounding the protests.

The demonstrations were sparked by anger over the killing of an AAU student by bandits, before being hijacked by miscreants and politicised, the group said.

The National Patriots also praised the governor’s decision to visit the parents of the slain student, calling it an important gesture of empathy at a time of grief and public tension.

According to the group, such actions help rebuild trust between citizens and government.

They further noted the dismissal of the governor’s Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation, describing it as evidence of a firm stance on accountability and competence among aides.

The group said the steps taken reflect a people-focused approach to governance and urged the Edo State Government to sustain dialogue, transparency, and responsiveness as it addresses security concerns and youth grievances.

Investigations by HeadlineNews.News indicate that the Ekpoma protests were likely sponsored by detractors seeking to create negative publicity against the Edo State Government.

Despite the escalation, including an attack on the traditional ruler’s palace, looting, assault of innocent members of the community, Governor Monday Okpebholo acted with speed and restraint, de-escalating tensions and restoring calm.

His prompt, decisive response reflects sound leadership, strong impulse control, and a clear commitment to protecting lives, institutions, and public order. He was able to keep the situation under control and deserves commendation.

The students are released and there is peace in the community.
