National Patriots Urge Australia to Verify Before Endorsing U.S. “Country of Particular Concern” Label on Nigeria

Nigeria Appeals to Canberra for Fairness and Independent Judgment

The National Patriots Movement of Nigeria, led by Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser (MFR), has written to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urging Canberra not to follow Washington’s decision to classify Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for alleged persecution of Christians.

In the open letter, received by the Australian High Commission in Abuja, the group called the U.S. move “unjust, misleading, and based on a political misconception rather than verified evidence.”

> “Nigeria’s challenge is insecurity, not intolerance,” Princess Adebajo-Fraser stated.

“We appeal to the Australian government’s sense of fairness to verify independently before judgment.”

Context: Countering a Domino Effect Among U.S. Allies

The appeal forms part of the National Patriots’ Preventive Diplomacy Initiative, following similar communications to Canada, the UK, Japan, and the EU.

The movement warns that if allied nations automatically echo Washington’s stance, a domino effect could unfairly isolate Africa’s largest democracy and reverse two years of image rebuilding under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Clarifying the Situation: Insurgency, Not Religion

The letter explains that violent incidents in Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Anambra, Ondo, Kwara, and Osun States are rooted in land-use and grazing disputes, aggravated by foreign insurgents and climate-induced migration, not faith hostility.

It notes that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorism and banditry.

President Tinubu’s administration, the Patriots stress, has:

Created a National Ranching and Land-Use Agency to end herder-farmer clashes;

Appointed new Service Chiefs and restructured the security command;

Partnered with global institutions at the Rome Counter-Terrorism Summit.

“These are the actions of a reforming state, not a persecuting one,” the movement wrote.

Australian Values of Justice and Independence

The Patriots reminded Canberra that Australia has long been respected for its independent foreign-policy tradition, moral integrity, and leadership within the Commonwealth.

> “Your diplomats live among us; they see churches and mosques standing side by side,” the letter said.

“Even our President’s household includes Christians and Muslims – a true reflection of Nigeria’s coexistence.”

The group asked that Australia rely on its own High Commission’s assessments rather than partisan narratives from abroad.

Survey: Nigerians Reject External Interference

A HeadlineNews.News nationwide poll (October 2025) revealed overwhelming opposition to any foreign intervention:

Indicator Result

Support for Trump-style intervention 8 % (mainly fringe separatists)

Reject foreign interference 90 %

View U.S. action as neo-colonial 85 %

Christians & Muslims affirm coexistence 88 %

Confirm no religious war 90 %

Urge outsiders to stay out 75 %

The Patriots argue that when nine out of ten Nigerians reject intervention, no foreign power can legitimately claim to act on their behalf.

Economic and Strategic Implications

Nigeria is Australia’s largest trading partner in West Africa, with cooperation in mining, agriculture, education, and energy. Thousands of Nigerian students study in Australian universities, and Australian firms are expanding operations in Lagos and Abuja.

A CPC designation, Princess Adebajo-Fraser warned, would damage investor confidence, undermine bilateral programs, and contradict Australia’s principle of “engagement before judgment.”

> “Our partnership has always been one of equality,” she said.

“To stigmatize Nigeria now would punish progress and reward propaganda.”

Respect for International Law

The letter cites Article 2(4) of the U.N. Charter, which prohibits coercive interference in sovereign states’ internal affairs.

Quoting U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, it recalls:

> “Sustainable peace is not achieved through external imposition but through local ownership and mutual respect.”

The Patriots argue that the U.S. designation violates that spirit and risks politicizing global human-rights advocacy.

Disinformation and Political Motives

The group blames a “small diaspora network” of politically motivated Nigerians in North America for misinforming Western policymakers.

“These individuals seek to discredit President Tinubu’s government ahead of the 2027 elections,” the movement claimed, adding that “they do not represent the voice of 200 million Nigerians.”

Preventive Diplomacy in Motion

Analysts in Abuja describe the National Patriots’ campaign as one of the most organized civil-society diplomatic drives in recent history.

By engaging world leaders directly, the group aims to pre-empt economic fallout and protect Nigeria’s reputation while official diplomatic channels mobilize.

A senior government source confirmed that the Federal Government delegation to Washington and Canberra will present the Patriots’ poll data and open letters as part of Nigeria’s evidence package.

Quotations from Leaders

> Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser:

“Nigeria is not a disgrace of a country – we reject that label.

We are a proud, resilient nation that attracts millions of visitors yearly and stands as a role model in Africa.”

> President Bola Ahmed Tinubu:

“Our diversity is not our weakness but our witness – proof that faiths can coexist under one flag.”

> UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

“Peace cannot be imposed; it must be built on inclusion and respect for sovereignty.”

> Former Foreign Minister Prince Bolaji Akinyemi:

“Every democracy must resist narrative colonization – where perception becomes a weapon more powerful than fact.”

Public Response

Reaction to the Patriots’ action has been overwhelmingly positive.

The hashtags #StandWithNigeria and #VerifyBeforeYouJudge trended on Nigerian and African social media.

Commentators described Princess Adebajo-Fraser as “a voice of reason amid hysteria.”

Faith leaders, including both Christian and Muslim clerics, publicly thanked her organization for “defending truth with dignity.”

A Call for Partnership, Not Patronage

The National Patriots concluded their letter with a plea for constructive cooperation:

> “Nigeria invites partnership, not patronage – support, not stigma.

Let Australia stand with truth, with fairness, and with friends who share its democratic values.”

The group proposed that Australia – instead of endorsing punitive labels – assist Nigeria with counter-terrorism technology, climate-adaptation programs, and conflict-resolution expertise.

Conclusion – A Moment for Moral Clarity

As debate continues among Western allies, Nigeria’s civil-society voices are rising in unity.

For the National Patriots, this is not just about diplomacy but about defending Nigeria’s dignity in the face of misunderstanding.

> “If truth is the first casualty of politics,” Princess Adebajo-Fraser said,

“then Nigeria’s answer must be truth itself – spoken boldly, verified independently, and heard globally.”

The National Patriots.
