The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, inaugurated a multi-million naira Strategic Naval Location in Ayakoro, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, reinforcing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The facility, equipped with a furnished administrative block, accommodation, two gunboats, and a floating jetty, aims to enhance security and development in the Niger Delta.

Ogbuku highlighted the facility’s role in curbing criminal activities like kidnapping and illegal oil refining, noting its strategic position blocking a creek used by criminals. Since the Navy’s presence, crime rates in the area have significantly dropped. The project has also boosted crude oil production from one million to 2.2 million barrels per day.

Representing Governor Douye Diri, Brig. Gen. Eric Angaya praised NDDC’s efforts, including a 650-bed hostel project at Nigeria Delta University, and urged communities to support security agencies. Rear Admiral Noel Madugu, representing the Chief of Naval Staff, commended the modern facility and Ayakoro’s land donation for a Navy School. Chief Clever Apkoti, speaking for the community, hailed Ogbuku’s visionary leadership.
