Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Uche Franklin Onyekwere, a Nigeria-based businessman residing in Brazil, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, for allegedly concealing cocaine in his body and shoes.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy, Onyekwere, 47, was apprehended on Thursday after arriving on a South African Airways flight from Brazil via Johannesburg, following intelligence-led operations.

A full-body scan and subsequent strip search revealed three large wraps of cocaine, weighing a total of 1.60 kilograms. One parcel was strapped around his right thigh, while two others were hidden in the soles of his shoes.
During a preliminary interview, the suspect admitted purchasing the drugs in Brazil with plans to resell them in Nigeria to raise business capital and fund the naming ceremony of his newborn child. Babafemi noted that Onyekwere has lived in São Paulo since 2008 and has operated a toy business for approximately nine years.
In related operations, NDLEA seized 1,183 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis hidden in two vehicles at Lagos’ Tincan seaport. The consignment, imported from Montreal, Canada, was discovered during a joint inspection with Customs and other security agencies.
