The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a Brazil-bound drug ship in a major operation that marks one of Nigeria’s biggest maritime seizures in recent years. The vessel, which sailed from South America and docked at a Nigerian port for refuelling, was found to be carrying a significant quantity of illicit substances concealed within its cargo compartments.

NDLEA officials arrested 20 Filipino crew members, all of whom are now in custody and undergoing interrogation. Preliminary findings suggest the ship was part of a transnational drug trafficking network moving narcotics from Latin America into West Africa and onward to Europe and Asia.
The Agency says further investigations are under way to identify local collaborators and international syndicates linked to the operation. This successful interception underscores NDLEA’s renewed push against global narcotics trafficking.
