New Controversy Rocks Tinubu’s Cabinet as Court Clears Prosecution of Labour Minister for Alleged Election Result Forgery

A Federal High Court in Abuja has authorized a lawsuit seeking the prosecution of Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, for allegedly falsifying election results in 62 polling units in Abia State’s Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency during the 2023 elections. Justice Mohammed Umar, in a September 23 ruling, found sufficient evidence presented by Hon. Amobi Ogah, a House of Representatives member, to allow the case to proceed, compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and potentially prosecute Onyejeocha.

The ruling does not confirm guilt but permits a full hearing for INEC and other parties to present arguments. Ogah, who defeated Onyejeocha (APC) as a Labour Party candidate in 2023, hailed the decision as a win for electoral integrity, stating,

“This case is about truth, justice, and respect for the rule of law.” Onyejeocha, who unsuccessfully challenged Ogah’s victory at the tribunal and Court of Appeal, has not officially responded, though sources close to her dismiss the claims as politically motivated.

This case follows recent controversies in President Tinubu’s cabinet, including the resignation of Minister Uche Nnaji over forged certificate allegations, raising concerns about the administration’s commitment to accountability.
