NEW LAGOS CP DECLARES WAR ON CULTISM, VIOLENT CRIME

New Lagos CP Fatai Vows Crackdown on Cultism, Violent Crimes

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, has pledged to intensify the fight against cultism and other violent crimes to improve security across the state.

Speaking during his inaugural address as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Fatai outlined a strategy focused on proactive, intelligence-driven policing, stressing that criminals would no longer find Lagos a safe haven.

“Our operational focus will include reducing crime to the barest minimum, tackling cultism and violent crimes, strengthening visibility policing, ensuring discipline on our roads, and restoring peace in identified black spots. Criminal elements will find no safe haven in Lagos,” he said.

Fatai described his appointment as a call to service, noting the unique security challenges that come with Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s commercial hub. He emphasised that a secure environment is essential for economic growth and public confidence.

He also highlighted the importance of community policing, promising to strengthen collaboration between the police and residents. According to him, building trust and cooperation will be key to effective policing.

The commissioner identified youth engagement as another critical area, stating that positive interaction with young people would help prevent crime and promote peace.

Fatai further assured that the police would work closely with other security agencies, including the military, to enhance intelligence gathering and coordinated operations.

He warned officers against misconduct, stressing that discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights would be strictly enforced.

“Discipline, professionalism, and integrity are non-negotiable. The command has zero tolerance for police brutality and all forms of misconduct,” he said.

Fatai also urged residents to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible information, reaffirming his commitment to protecting lives and property in Lagos State.
