Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi who was today named as the new Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, was between 2011 and 2012, indicted in the N2billion police payroll fraud.
Also, Ogunjimi also came fourth in the examination for the selection of Accountant General, scoring 62 percent in the written examination, according to a memo signed by Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence.
Between 2011 and 2012, Ogunjimi used eight Bank accounts in First Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and Eco Bank to warehouse funds linked to the Police Payroll Fr^ud.
The account numbers linked to the fraud and operated by Ogunjimi were: First Bank: 3029815592, 3009111135, Guaranty Trust Bank: 3212211920, Eco Bank: 021250102072902, 0212510102072901, 0210190102072901, 0212030931 and 0212033822. The accounts contained Millions in Naira and Pounds and Dollars in thousands.
Meanwhile, an 11 February 2025 memo detailing results from the written interviews for the position of the AGF, Ogunjimi scored 62. Aondoakaa Emmanuel Terhembe from Benue State, scored 70 and Bala Sanusi Dutsin-Ma scored 69.
Ironically, a Press statement from the Presidency signed by Bayo Onanuga announcing the new AGF said Ogunjimi was selected “through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The committee conducted the process through three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.”
