Nigeria and Angola have formalized a bilateral agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
The agreement was signed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, during the 39th Session of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and his Angolan counterpart, Tete António, signed on behalf of their countries.

Ambassador Tuggar described the accord as “long in coming” and emphasized its significance for easing the movement of government officials between the two nations. He noted that such free movement would pave the way for stronger ties in both government and private sector engagements.

Tuggar expressed hope that, in the near future, ordinary Nigerians and Angolans would also be able to travel freely between the countries, describing the two nations as “truly brothers and sisters.”
He also highlighted the historical importance of Addis Ababa, recalling the landmark speech delivered there by the late Nigerian head of state, Murtala Muhammed, which marked a major milestone in Africa-Angola relations.

The minister expressed confidence that the new agreement would further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Angola.
