Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is leading the country’s delegation to the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where African leaders are convening to address critical continental issues.
The two-day Executive Council meeting, starting Wednesday, will set the stage for the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for February 14–15, 2026.

Comprising foreign ministers from AU member states, the Executive Council will review major policy proposals and make recommendations for consideration by the heads of state. Key discussions will focus on peace and security, democratic governance, economic integration, and sustainable development.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Tuggar will leverage the platform to advance Nigeria’s strategic interests and reaffirm its commitment to continental cooperation and multilateral engagement.
“Nigeria will actively participate in deliberations aimed at strengthening peace and security mechanisms, deepening democratic governance frameworks, and promoting sustainable development across Africa,” the statement said.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Nigerian delegation will hold bilateral meetings with representatives of both African and non-African countries to enhance diplomatic ties, foster economic partnerships, and improve collaboration on regional and global challenges.

The AU Summit takes place amid ongoing security threats, political transitions, economic pressures, and climate-related challenges across the continent. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs promised to provide updates on key outcomes and Nigeria’s engagements as the summit progresses.
