Nigeria, China relationship valued at nearly $24 billion — Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says Nigeria’s trade relationship with China has grown to nearly $24 billion, reflecting deepening economic ties between both nations.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, at the opening of the 2025 China Commodities Expo Nigeria in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu described the event as “more than a trade show,” calling it a platform that strengthens cooperation in manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and renewable energy.

He noted that Lagos, supported by key infrastructure like the Lekki Deep Seaport and Lagos Free Zone, is positioning itself as a major hub for African trade and industrial growth.

Sanwo-Olu added that Chinese investments exceeding $1.5 billion in Lagos and across Nigeria have enhanced infrastructure, technology transfer, and skills development. He urged Nigerian businesses to use the Expo to forge partnerships that promote sustainable growth.

Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, thanked the Nigerian government for its support, noting that China has remained Africa’s largest trading partner for 16 years. She said China–Nigeria trade reached $21.9 billion in 2024, and future collaboration will focus on green development, industrial alignment, and cultural exchange.

The Expo featured over 250 Chinese manufacturers and 5,000 business delegates, marking another milestone in the 54-year diplomatic relationship between both countries.Headline news
