Nigeria has once again failed to meet its crude oil production quota set by OPEC, according to the organisation’s latest monthly report.

The report shows that Nigeria produced an average of 1.401 million barrels per day (bpd) in the third quarter of 2025—below OPEC’s quota of 1.5 million bpd. Output also declined from 1.48 million bpd in the second quarter and 1.46 million bpd in the first.
Between December 2024 and September 2025, Nigeria missed its quota seven times due to pipeline vandalism, oil theft, and poor sector management. Experts warn that these persistent shortfalls threaten national revenue and economic growth.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reported that 67.7 million barrels were supplied to local refiners between January and August 2025—about 45% less than required for domestic processing.
The shortfall has forced Nigeria to rely heavily on imported fuel, which cost N4.13 trillion in the first half of 2025.
