The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported 153 measles-related deaths across the country as of November 2025.
According to the agency’s latest measles situation report released on Tuesday in Abuja, Nigeria recorded 26,866 suspected measles cases between January and November 2025, out of which 19,213 were confirmed across 507 Local Government Areas in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The report showed that Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Bauchi and Kebbi states accounted for over 66 per cent of the suspected cases nationwide. Children aged nine to 59 months were the most affected, making up nearly half of all confirmed infections.
Of the confirmed cases, 77 per cent involved individuals who had not received any dose of the measles vaccine, a situation the NCDC described as alarming.

In November alone, 71 suspected cases were reported, mainly from Delta, Kwara, Bayelsa, Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states. Only one case was laboratory confirmed, while no deaths were recorded during the month.
The agency noted that measles outbreaks were reported in 188 LGAs across 27 states within the period under review, with a case fatality rate of 0.8 per cent.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease spread through coughing, sneezing and close contact, with infected persons most infectious from four days before to four days after the appearance of a rash.
