The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade were ambushed by ISWAP fighters along the Damboa–Wajiroko road in Borno State.

Acting Army spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, said the patrol team—led by Brig.-Gen. M. Uba and supported by CJTF operatives—came under heavy fire on Friday while transporting military equipment. The troops fought back with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat.
Two soldiers and two CJTF members were killed in the attack, and the Army has condoled with their families. Anele also dismissed reports claiming the Brigade Commander was abducted, calling them fake news.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, praised the troops’ bravery, while the slain CJTF members were buried in Maiduguri.
