The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to developing combat-ready soldiers for enhanced operational effectiveness.

Speaking at a seminar held at the Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State, Shaibu said the Army must continue to strengthen its warrior ethos, resilience, and discipline to effectively counter emerging security threats.
The event, themed “From Trauma to Triumph: Building Combat-Ready Warriors in the Nigerian Army,” was organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Transformation and Innovation.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Ademola Adedoja, Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Shaibu stressed that mental resilience, courage, and dedication are essential for mission success.

He noted that integrating field experiences with strategic innovation would enable the Army to adapt to complex security challenges. He also highlighted the need to address post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, which can undermine combat readiness.
Shaibu commended President Bola Tinubu for his consistent support and guidance, assuring that the Army remains at the forefront of the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
Earlier, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Abai, said the seminar was designed to build leadership capacity among junior and middle-ranking officers while promoting mental toughness and discipline.

Represented by Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Danja, Abai said the sessions also aimed to raise awareness about stress management and discourage drug use among troops.
The seminar featured lectures on warrior ethos, mental toughness, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress management, alongside interactive sessions to reinforce learning and resilience among personnel.
