The Nigerian Army has paid tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, by naming a golf range at the TYB Golf Course in his honor. The unveiling took place on Friday, attended by top military officials, dignitaries, and members of the General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Maj. Gen. Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), described the dedication as a way to preserve Attahiru’s legacy as a visionary leader whose service continues to inspire soldiers. Former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, who commissioned the facility, praised Attahiru’s reforms and commitment to a professional, people-focused force.
Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa, secretary of the General Ibrahim Attahiru Foundation, called the naming a symbolic gesture to uphold Attahiru’s values and strengthen military-civil ties. Guests emphasized that honoring fallen leaders inspires younger officers and fosters a culture of sacrifice.
Attahiru, who died in a 2021 plane crash at Kaduna International Airport, was posthumously awarded a PhD in Military Science by the Nigerian Defence Academy in October 2021, received by his wife, Mrs. Fati Attahiru. The golf range dedication joins other efforts by the Army and the foundation to commemorate his service.
