Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer and medical doctor, died from severe burns after his wife allegedly set him on fire during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom State. The incident took place on September 22, 2025, at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the officer, who served as the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, was involved in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, who reportedly poured petrol on him and set him alight.
Haruna was initially treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts. The suspect, Mrs. Samson Haruna, has been arrested and is in custody as investigations continue.
