NIGERIAN GOVT LAUNCHES DIGITAL PLATFORM TO IMPROVE SERVICE DELIVERY IN PETROLEUM MINISTRY

The Nigerian government has launched the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to enhance service delivery, streamline processes, and reduce reliance on paper. The system is deployed on the 1Gov Cloud platform, enabling electronic approvals, automated workflows, and interoperability across government agencies.

At the launch in Abuja on Wednesday, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, said the initiative aligns with the federal government’s directive to fully digitalize work processes by December 31 and supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promoting efficiency, accountability, and a digitally enabled public service.

“For a ministry critical to Nigeria’s economic stability and energy security, this milestone is both timely and significant,” Mrs. Walson-Jack said. “Its efficiency impacts revenue generation, investment confidence, and national planning. Today’s launch represents a deliberate shift in work organisation, record management, and decision support.”

She added that the ECMS would ensure secure records, clear audit trails, efficient workflows, and reliable institutional memory, particularly given the ministry’s constant interaction with regulatory agencies, operators, and other MDAs.

“This initiative strengthens coordination, preserves institutional memory, and ensures accurate records support policy decisions in the petroleum sector,” she said. Paper-based processes will progressively give way to disciplined digital practices within the ministry.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, praised the initiative, noting that it strengthens institutions, supports resource efficiency, and unlocks the potential of the oil and gas sector.

Permanent Secretary Patience Oyekunle emphasized that the digital platform enhances efficiency, transparency, and service delivery, marking a clear transition from manual, paper-based processes.

The ECMS launch is part of ongoing public service reforms aimed at modernizing government operations, improving accountability, and ensuring timely access to information for informed decision-making.
