The Nigerian Navy has launched Operation DELTA SENTINEL, a new phase following the success of Operation DELTA SANITY II.
The flag-off took place on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, after the Navy recovered stolen petroleum products worth billions of naira, demonstrating its renewed commitment to protecting Nigeria’s oil sector.
Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, Commander Task Group 25.1 and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, praised the smooth transition between operations.

During DELTA SANITY II, the Navy arrested 203 suspects, shut down 324 illegal refining sites, seized more than 3.7 million litres of stolen crude oil, and dismantled 91 wooden boats and 732 illegal ovens. These actions contributed to Nigeria’s lowest crude losses since 2009 and helped boost national oil production.
Operation DELTA SENTINEL is now underway under Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, Commander Task Group 26.1 and Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command. The operation, which will run for one year, aligns with the Federal Government’s Project 1mbpd initiative. It focuses on deep offshore security, protecting International Oil Company assets, and using advanced technology including manned and unmanned surveillance platforms.

Rear Admiral Ibrahim pledged zero tolerance for economic sabotage, stronger engagement with local communities, and sustained improvements in oil output and maritime security.
The successes of both operations are credited to Vice Admiral Idi Abbas’s leadership, enhanced surveillance measures, and strong collaboration with communities and other agencies, boosting national revenue and enhancing Nigeria’s standing in the global energy sector.
