Nigerian Police Launch Three-Month Special Operation Against Criminals In FCT Amid Trump’s Threat

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a three-month special operation to dismantle criminal hideouts across Abuja.

In a statement on Sunday, Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the operation, directed by Commissioner Miller Dantawaye, will run from November 2025 to January 2026. It involves tactical, surveillance, and counterterrorism units working with divisional commands to identify and arrest criminals across the territory.

Dantawaye ordered officers to maintain “discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights,” warning that any misconduct would not be tolerated. He also urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and report suspicious activities.

The police initiative comes amid renewed international scrutiny following U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning that America could take military action if Nigeria fails to protect Christians. Trump, who recently reclassified Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” accused the Tinubu administration of allowing “genocide against Christians.”

In response, President Bola Tinubu rejected the allegations, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom and equality. He said his government continues to engage both Christian and Muslim leaders to address security challenges affecting all citizens, adding that claims of religious persecution “do not reflect Nigeria’s reality.”
