NIGERIAN POLICE SMASH SOPHISTICATED ARMED ROBBERY NETWORK IN LAGOS, AIG ADEGOKE CONFIRMS

The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos State, has successfully dismantled a major armed robbery syndicate responsible for burglaries in upscale Lagos estates.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the zone, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, revealed on Friday that four suspects—a woman aged 25 and three men aged 30, 34, and 43—were apprehended through intelligence-led operations.

Recovered items from the operation included two luxury cars, a plastic pistol, crowbars, knives, jewellery, designer watches, mobile phones, iPads, and other valuables. The arrests followed complaints from residents of Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, regarding repeated robberies.

Fayoade explained that the principal suspect, 34, rented a short-let apartment in a highbrow area to stage attacks on Parkview, Banana Island, and Lekki Phase One. He reportedly carried out the robberies wearing hoodies and masks, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, and confessed to stealing property valued at over N3 billion.

The confession led to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect, who admitted purchasing stolen gold, diamond jewellery, and luxury watches. Some of the stolen items were reportedly moved to Cotonou, Benin Republic, to avoid recovery. Part of the proceeds was used to buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE worth N74 million for the principal suspect.

Fayoade said investigations are ongoing and assured that all those involved would face the full weight of the law. He urged Lagos and Ogun State residents to report any suspicious activity through the command’s
