ABUJA — Former Super Eagles coach Festus Adegboye Onigbinde has passed away at the age of 88. According to family sources, the veteran football administrator and respected tactician died on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Onigbinde was celebrated as one of Nigeria’s earliest indigenous national team coaches, leading the Super Eagles in the early 1980s and later returning to guide the squad to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Renowned for his dedication to grassroots football and the development of Nigerian football, he earned widespread respect within the sports community.

Beyond his contributions to football, Onigbinde held traditional titles in his hometown of Modakeke, Osun State, where he was a high chief and community leader.
