‘NIGERIANS ARE TIRED OF STATEMENTS,’ CAN DEMANDS ACTION OVER PLATEAU ATTACK

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for urgent action following the recent deadly attack in Plateau State, urging authorities to go beyond statements and ensure justice is served.

CAN President, Daniel Okoh, described the incident as both tragic and unacceptable, stressing that Nigerians are growing weary of repeated violence without meaningful consequences.

“Nigerians are tired of mourning. Nigerians are tired of statements. Nigerians want to see action,” he said, insisting that those responsible must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay.

The attack, which occurred in Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, claimed the lives of 28 people and left several others injured, sparking outrage and protests among residents.

CAN noted that such incidents undermine public trust and called for a thorough investigation, urging security agencies to take proactive steps to prevent future attacks rather than merely reacting after the fact.

While acknowledging efforts by the Plateau State Government, the group stressed that temporary security measures are not enough, adding that Nigerians deserve lasting protection.

The association also urged citizens to remain calm but vigilant, emphasising that justice must be delivered for the victims and safety guaranteed for those still at risk.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, confirmed the death toll and expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He assured residents that the state would not give in to fear, pledging stronger efforts to protect lives and maintain peace.

He also visited the affected community and injured victims, as authorities imposed a curfew in the area to restore order.

The attack adds to growing security concerns in Nigeria’s North-Central region, with increasing calls for decisive and sustained action to address the recurring violence.
