In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, addressed to the President, Adebayo expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve and contribute to reforms in Nigeria’s power sector. He highlighted the privilege of working under the administration to advance initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s electricity system as part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Adebayo stated that stepping down would allow him to fully dedicate his time and resources to his gubernatorial campaign in Oyo State. His decision is already drawing significant attention in political circles, where he is considered a leading contender with strong grassroots support to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

Adebayo, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the APC governorship candidate in 2019, is recognized as an experienced administrator with extensive public and private sector expertise.
