NIMASA Director-General, Dayo Mobereola, described the workshop as a significant milestone in advancing the Federal Government’s blue economy and climate objectives. He highlighted that the upcoming national action plan will be tailored to Nigeria’s specific realities, build on existing capacities, address gaps, and align with broader economic and environmental priorities.

“The transition is not merely about compliance with international obligations. It is about safeguarding the marine environment and national interest,” Mobereola stated, emphasizing that the initiative will protect public health, strengthen the blue economy, and ensure Nigeria’s maritime sector remains competitive.

Astrid Dispert, the technical manager of the IMO GreenVoyage2050 project, noted that the initiative provides a globally aligned regulatory framework to support sustainable shipping and clean technologies. She reaffirmed NIMASA’s central role in coordinating stakeholders and ensuring effective maritime decarbonisation nationwide.
