Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyers Allege DSS Plot to Disrupt Abuja Court, Justify Protest Crackdown

The Global Defence Consortium (GDC), representing Nnamdi Kanu, has accused Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) of planning to stage violence around the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 16, 2025, to justify a clampdown on a peaceful #FreeMaziNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for October 20. In a statement by Njoku Jude Njoku, Esq., the GDC claimed the DSS intends to deploy disguised operatives and hired thugs to create chaos, framing it as a pretext for an Abuja lockdown under “security concerns.”

The group condemned the alleged plot as a tactic to demonize peaceful protesters and called on the US, EU, African Union, and Canada to urge Nigerian authorities to stop. The GDC reaffirmed its commitment to non-violence and justice for Kanu, who they claim has been illegally detained despite court orders.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, mobilizing for the October 20 protest, condemned the government’s use of “fake charges” to silence dissent. Speaking at Utako Market in Abuja, Sowore emphasized unity, rejecting ethnic divisions and advocating for justice.

He highlighted his own experiences with state intimidation, urging Nigerians to join the protest to demand Kanu’s release, asserting that the people, not the government, will determine the 2027 election outcome.
