The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has pledged support for a Mini-LNG and LCNG facility being developed by Portland Gas Limited in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
NNPCL confirmed it will supply gas to the project through the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline once the pipeline is completed and inaugurated in July.

The company’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, made the announcement at an investment workshop hosted by Portland Gas in Abuja. He highlighted the rapid growth of Nigeria’s compressed natural gas (CNG) sector, which has attracted over $200 million in private investment commitments in recent years.

Represented by Manager of Business Development, Suleiman Kachalla, NNPCL said the Mini-LNG/LCNG facility would fuel vehicles, power industries, reduce reliance on diesel, and enhance the country’s energy resilience. Positioned at the AKK Abuja take-off node, the project aligns with both market demand and investor interest.
Portland Gas Limited’s Managing Director and CEO, Folajimi Mohammed, emphasized that Nigeria’s energy future will be gas-driven. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting government initiatives to expand access to gas resources.

“At Portland Gas, our goal is clear. We aim to make clean, reliable, and sustainable gas solutions a reality. With years of experience in gas infrastructure development, we have consistently delivered projects to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and innovation,” Mohammed said. “This track record reinforces our confidence that Nigeria’s gas sector is ready for investment, and Portland Gas is prepared to play a leading role.”
