#NRC Invites Daddy Showkey After Entertaining Passengers During Train Delay

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has invited renowned reggae artist John Odafe Asimoh, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, to its Lagos headquarters following his impromptu performance for delayed passengers aboard the Warri-Itakpe train. The train had been held up for over an hour due to a refueling process, during which Daddy Showkey entertained fellow passengers to ease the wait.

NRC’s Response and Assurance

In a post on X, NRC quoted its Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, who expressed appreciation for Daddy Showkey’s gesture and reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to improving train services. Opeifa stated that enhancing passenger comfort through additional coaches and wagons remains a top priority for his administration.

“The Managing Director invited Daddy Showkey to brief the NRC management on his experience aboard the Warri-Itakpe Train Service,” the statement read. “We commend him for turning a challenge into an opportunity and assure Nigerians that we are working to ensure seamless train operations.”

He further encouraged passengers to use the NRC’s customer care portal to share observations and suggestions for service improvement.

Daddy Showkey’s Reaction

Reacting to the invitation, Daddy Showkey described it as a pleasant surprise but said it reaffirmed his confidence in Dr. Opeifa’s leadership. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Opeifa as the NRC Managing Director, citing his past successes as Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.

Reflecting on his train experience, Daddy Showkey acknowledged both the challenges and the potential of the Warri-Itakpe route. He noted that the demand for rail services was high, particularly for passengers and farmers transporting produce. Despite the delay, he described rail travel as a thrilling experience.

Daddy Showkey was accompanied on the trip by his manager, Morrison Ovedja.
