The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has issued a strong warning to the public about the activities of fraudulent online platforms impersonating official channels to collect payments for train tickets via personal bank accounts.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Callistus Unyimadu, the Corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, the NRC disassociated itself from these illegal platforms and cautioned passengers against engaging with them.
“The NRC wishes to categorically state that these platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation, and any payment made through such channels is done at the victim’s risk,” the statement read.
The Corporation urged travellers to exercise caution and ensure they only interact with booking platforms explicitly approved by the NRC.
“Passengers are strongly advised to refrain from using these fraudulent websites and must not, under any circumstances, transfer money into personal or unverified accounts for train ticket bookings,” it emphasized.
For secure bookings, the NRC listed the following as its only authorised online portals:
Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS): (https://nrc-fane.ng)
Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS): (https://nrc.tps.ng)
Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS): (https://nrc.gsds.ng)
Passengers were also encouraged to verify any booking platform through the Corporation’s official website — (https://www.nrc.gov.ng) — or by contacting its customer service centres directly.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” the statement concluded.
