The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’S SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck loaded with 70,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Rivers State.
According to CSC Afolabi Babawale, NSCDC’s National Public Relations Officer, the seizure followed an intelligence tip-off and took place around Eleme Flyover in Elelewon, Port Harcourt.
Truck Impounded, Suspects Escape
Commander of the CG’S SIS, AS Dandaura, revealed that operatives swiftly moved to the scene, where they impounded a red-head navy blue container truck (Reg. No. AGL574XY) suspected of being used to siphon crude from vandalized wellheads and pipelines.
However, the perpetrators abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting security operatives.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
The NSCDC has launched an investigation to track down the criminal syndicate behind the operation. The seized truck and its contents are now officially confiscated as part of the probe.
Commander Dandaura stated:
“Upon completion of a thorough investigation, the NSCDC will file for forfeiture of the seized truck and its contents in a court of competent jurisdiction. The proceeds from the forfeiture will be remitted to the **Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA).”
NSCDC Vows to Sustain Fight Against Oil Theft
Reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to tackling oil theft, Dandaura emphasized that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted in line with the law.
The agency continues to intensify its crackdown on oil vandals, stressing that such crimes amount to economic sabotage and will not be tolerated.
