NSCDC SHUTS DOWN OVER 640 ILLEGAL MINING SITES NATIONWIDE IN AGGRESSIVE ENFORCEMENT DRIVE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining activities, shutting down more than 640 unauthorized mining sites nationwide in a decisive effort to clean up the sector.

The disclosure was made by the Commandant General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, during the NSCDC’s final quarterly meeting for 2025. This was contained in a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale.

Addressing a strategic meeting attended by Deputy Commandants General, Assistant Commandants General, Commandants of Corps, and heads of state operations, Professor Audi assured that the Mining Marshals would sustain aggressive enforcement actions until illegal mining is completely eliminated.

He stressed that the Corps remains committed to its mandate under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that protecting solid minerals and other critical national assets is essential to preventing economic sabotage.

The NSCDC boss also revealed significant progress in the fight against oil vandalism, stating that 1,872 vandalism points have been identified across the country, with 1,271 located in the Niger Delta. These locations, he said, are currently under surveillance to reduce revenue losses and support the Federal Government’s goal of achieving 3 million barrels of crude oil production per day.

Beyond the mining sector, Professor Audi tasked personnel to intensify efforts against banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, insurgency, and communal violence. He expressed concern over recurring school abductions and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among security stakeholders.

He further reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to VIP protection, improved personnel welfare, and ongoing recruitment to strengthen manpower. As part of welfare initiatives, cheques amounting to ₦464 million were presented to 125 beneficiaries for insurance claims.
