The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shifted its Kwara orientation camp from Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to the Kwara State Polytechnic campus in Ilorin for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation exercise.
Kwara State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, announced this during a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday, according to The Informant247. The relocation, approved by the Kwara State government, was prompted by security concerns caused by “perpetrators and enemies of progress,” Onifade stated.
He reassured prospective corps members and their families of robust security measures, with armed soldiers and other personnel deployed to ensure safety during the three-week program. Onifade expressed gratitude to the Federal and State Governments for their support and affirmed NYSC Kwara’s readiness to host the orientation from September 24 to October 14, 2025.
Preparations are underway, with the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General OO Nafiu, directing Mrs. Abiodun Oluwaremilekun, Director of the South West Area Office I in Osun State, to inspect the temporary venue.
The decision follows heightened insecurity in Kwara, marked by frequent bandit attacks, kidnappings, and community displacements. In August, suspicious movements near the Yikpata camp during Batch ‘B’ Stream I caused alarm, with soldiers intervening to secure the area. The unfenced Yikpata camp has long faced issues with unauthorized access by herdsmen and villagers, raising safety concerns for corps members.
