###OGUN BUDGETS ₦1.668TRN FOR 2026

The Ogun State Government has unveiled a proposed budget of ₦1.67 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a 63% increase from the ₦1.054 trillion approved for 2025.

Governor Dapo Abiodun presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill, titled “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” to the State House of Assembly in Abeokuta. According to him, the spending plan allocates ₦624.76 billion (37%) to recurrent expenses and ₦1.044 trillion (63%) to capital projects.

Breakdown of Major Expenditures

  • Personnel Costs: ₦167.92 billion

  • Consolidated Revenue Charges: ₦65.80 billion

  • Public Debt Charges: ₦99.98 billion

  • Overhead Costs: ₦291.06 billion

  • Capital Projects: ₦1.044 trillion

Funding Sources

The governor noted that the state expects:

  • ₦509.88 billion from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)

    • Ogun State IRS: ₦250 billion

    • MDAs: ₦259.80 billion

  • ₦554.81 billion from federal statutory allocations

  • ₦518.90 billion from capital receipts, including loans and grants

  • Infrastructure: ₦526.15 billion (32%) – the largest share

  • Education: ₦275.40 billion (17%)

  • Health: ₦210.59 billion (13%)

  • Housing & Community Development: ₦199.96 billion (10%)

  • Agriculture & Industry: ₦40.54 billion (2%)

  • Social Protection: ₦72.82 billion (4%)

  • Recreation, Culture & Religion: ₦42.24 billion (3%)

  • Public Order & Safety: ₦36 billion (2%)

  • Judiciary: ₦15.70 billion (1%)

  • Legislature: ₦33.67 billion (2%)

  • Statewide Expenditure: ₦129.68 billion (8%)

Focus of the 2026 Budget

Abiodun said the state will prioritize:

  • Revenue-generating projects

  • Job-creating initiatives

  • Projects aligned with the State Development Plan

  • Investments consistent with national development goals

  • Initiatives supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda

He highlighted progress made under the 2025 budget, noting 60% expenditure performance and 53% revenue performance as of September 30, 2025.

Economic Performance & Infrastructure Growth

The governor announced that Ogun State’s economy has expanded to an estimated ₦17 trillion GDP, while IGR rose from ₦52 billion in 2020 to ₦192 billion in 2024, with ₦250 billion projected for 2025.

He also emphasized major infrastructure strides:

  • The Gateway International Airport is now certified and running commercial flights to Abuja, boosting investments and agricultural exports.

  • Construction of the Kajola and Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Ports is ongoing, expected to cut logistics costs and stimulate industrial growth.

  • Over 1,500km of roads have been built or rehabilitated in six years.

Abiodun urged lawmakers to fast-track approval of the budget and announced preparations for the Gateway Afrobeat Drum Festival and the state’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2026.

Remarks from the Speaker

Speaker Oludaisi Elemide noted that the Assembly had handled 19 bills, passing 11 into law across key sectors. He said lawmakers passed 56 resolutions, conducted oversight visits, and mediated over 100 disputes relating to land, chieftaincy, and community issues.

He called for a special court to enforce the Anti-Land Grabbing Law and requested additional digital equipment and staff to improve the Assembly’s operations.
