Ogun State Partners with Two Firms to Generate 1,100MW of Solar Power

Ogun State Government has signed a landmark agreement with two renewable energy companies, Tranos Contracting Limited and Vision Gas and Power Limited, to produce 1,100MW of solar power, bolstering the state’s industrial base. Tranos will establish a 600MW solar panel and battery manufacturing plant, while Vision Gas and Power will set up a 500MW plant, with potential expansion to 1GW.

The partnership, facilitated by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, was formalized at the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) 2025 in Abuja, co-organized by the Federal Ministry of Power, UNDP, NASENI, and the Alliance for Rural Electrification. The forum, themed “Implementing the Nigeria First Policy: Facilitating Local Content Development and Manufacturing in the Renewable Energy Ecosystem,” aims to advance renewable energy manufacturing in Nigeria.

According to Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor, the initiative aligns with the state’s vision to drive economic diversification, create jobs, and promote sustainability. By boosting local clean energy production, Ogun aims to reduce import reliance, foster inclusive industrial growth, and position itself as a leader in innovation and environmental sustainability.
